Award for Midsized Enterprises 2008

ARCA is one of the best!

On September 27, a gala was held at the Hotel Maritim in Düsseldorf to recognize the most successful companies in the 14th Germany-wide competition for the Oskar Patzelt Foundation Award for Midsized Enterprises 2008 (“Grosser Preis des Mittelstandes”) from the regions North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony/Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein/Hamburg, and Rhineland-Palatinate/Saarland.

ARCA was one of the five finalists in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Excerpt from the jurors’ congratulatory speech:
"Valves play a key role in helping turbines discharge steam, safely pump chemical products through plants, and combine the correct ratio of hops, malt, and water in the brewing process. Since its founding 85 years ago, ARCA has filed 102 patents. Its pneumatically and electrically-activated control valves are used everywhere. The company has also managed to increase sales by around 90% in the last six years."

The 11 prizewinners and 18 finalists won out against tough competition in the second round (the jury list). Of the 915 companies originally nominated from these four states, 239 qualified for inclusion in the jury list.

In addition to exhibiting excellent overall development and creating and safeguarding jobs and apprenticeships, the companies identified as finalists also achieved exemplary performance in the categories “Innovation/ Modernization”, “Involvement in the Region”, and “Service/Proximity to Customers/Marketing”.

What is the “Award for Midsized Enterprises”?
Since the first prize-giving ceremony in 1995, the Oskar Patzelt Foundation’s annual “Award for Midsized Enterprises” has become the most important competition in the German SME sector. The competition helps to publically recognize this sector as a bringer of hope and an economic factor, promotes networking within the SME sector, and publicizes success stories.

Regional juries for the twelve competition regions and a final jury decide which companies should receive awards. Three companies per competition region can be named as prizewinners and a further five as finalists. In addition, special prizes are awarded at the Federal Ball in Berlin.

The Oskar Patzelt Foundation, headquartered in Leipzig, undertakes to recognize outstanding achievements of SMEs from all over Germany and presents the “Award for Midsized Enterprises” annually in the fall.
