ARCA delivered control valves for a biomass heat and power plant

Kronospan Luxembourg S. A., a global manufacturer of chipboards, MDF boards, OSB panels, laminated flooring and worktops, has made - as part of the EU’s project „Factory for the Future“- investments, in order to reduce the CO2 emissions and the environmental impacts of its production plants substantially. As a measure the planning and delivery of a biomass combined heat and power plant was commissioned.

For the construction of the second biomass power plant CHP2 Arca provided almost all control valves and cooler for the water-steam-condensate cycle including the valves for the steam drum, boiler, feed water tank and condenser. Around the turbine two steam conditioning stations are placed. In case of a turbine failure the complete steam is redirected by this bypass stations. The high steam pressure is thereby reduced in several control and fixed stages and at the same time cooled with the integrated Arca steam assisted nozzle centered in the pipeline. These valves are of great importance for the availability and safety of the plant. They can close within 2 seconds by a 1oo3 control system as well as open by means of a solenoid valve. The steam test unit for pressure monitoring after the bypass station was part of Arca‘s scope of delivery and safety concept.
For the customer a great benefit of the cooperation with Arca was to have a producer at his side for the standard control valves as well as for the heavy duty control valves.

The production of wooden products requires a lot of energy and heating. At the same time wood remainders result from the production process, that are ideal energy sources for cogeneration. With this approach wood that has come to the end of its utilization cycle, but also recycled wood can be thermically recycled. Thereby fossil fuels are replaced with renewable energy.
